Trans Space

Pride in Brighton and Hove
August 10th 2002

Weather Warning: Rain Expected

Registration and Parade

Look out for metallic blue helium balloons with the pink triangle Gender Diversity stickers, where Emma will be registering everybody at Madeira Drive just east of the Palace Pier from around 10am on Saturday 10th August. Your registration entitles you to a free lunch at 1pm in the trans Space at Preston Park. You will be asked to volunteer for an hour or two in a rota for collecting donations in Preston Park throughout the day and for staffing the Trans Space.

Wheels, wheels, wheels! Don't forget your wheels. A cycle rickshaw may accompany us on the parade for water bottles, balloons and stickers haulage.

Everybody will have metallic helium filled balloons to carry and/or tied to them with stickers to give out to people watching the parade. This is our collective theme.

Preston Park

The Trans Space is on the Pride Maps. We are at the north end to the right/east of the main stage. Receive your free lunch at Preston Park after the march including vegetarian options. Emma will be filling out a rota for bucketeering during the day. We are representing Gender Diverse people including our friends and lovers at Pride, so it is very important that we volunteer. Please try to go in pairs and give away lots of pink triangle Gender Diversity stickers to encourage cash out of pockets and into buckets. It's hard and challenging but a VERY rewarding experience in a safe public space for the day.

We have a Pledge for visitors to sign at the park. Please take a blank pledge form with you when you go bucketeering.

Last year many people wanted to chat to trans people, this year we have a safe space to sit and relax in. Please feel free to spend time in our space and be available to meet our visitors and share free soft drinks with them.

Transsexual rights are Human Rights said the European Court this summer so we have something to celebrate this year at Pride. However the government was forced to act, so remember even though we won the argument we still have to campaign just as hard for full legal recognition until the law is actually changed in the UK.

Remember all money raised goes back to the LGBT community

£1000 was given to the Clare Project last year!
